Hi Kelly,
I qualified for the Fiber Customer Support Analyst job in October 2007 for the Syracuse office. In Nov I had talked with a recruiter who asked if I could start the next week and then when she was calling back with the info for drug testing she said she no longer had an opening but would put me in the "next class". Her vm is full and I have not heard from anyone else even though I know they have had at least 3 classes since then. What else can I do?

Hi Kelly,
I'm a resident of the Syracuse, NY area. Approximately 6-8 months ago, I went through testing for FIOS tech support/customer service. I successfully passed the written testing and the next step was for me to listen in on calls. Situations arose that unfortunately didn't allow me to complete that process. I've stopped at my local office and was informed that the only way to apply was through the website. I'd really like to work for Verizon, but am finding myself a bit discouraged since there aren't any specific job listings for the Syracuse area. I've been told by several friends, and friends of theirs, that they have heard Verizon is again hiring locally. I would appreciate any guidance you can provide.

Thanks,
Mike

Shaman,

Thank you so much for your interest in starting a career at Verizon. We currently have roughly 30 positions in Engineering with multiple locations across the United States. Please go to the careers page (www.verizon.com/telecomjobs)to review all jobs that may be of interest to you and apply. If you have not already done so, please create an account so that the Recruiters have access to your resume. You may also want to set up a job agent in your account with us. This will allow you to receive automatic email notifications anytime we post a position on-line that fits what you are looking for. Please let me know if you have additional questions and we look forward to receiving your resume.

Jasmine,

Good afternoon and thanks for you inquiry. Before I respond, I wanted to try and pin-point an area that you might be headed to as we have opportunities all over the State of Virginia. So, if you can provide me a "gernal direction" that would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Kelly,

First of all I would like to thank you for giving people an opportunity to blog with you in regards to questions they may have about Verizon. I reside in Syracuse,NY and have passed all the necessary tests in March 2008 for the Fiber Customer Support Analyst position, including the role play test in April 2008 and have yet to hear anything, other than an electronic call to confirm my continued interest. I'm very interested in becoming a part of Verizon. In your response to someone else I noticed you advised them to set up a Job Agent. Could you explain exactly what that is? I would like to speak with a recruiter in my area, can you provide me with the name or names & phone numbers of my local recruiters? Any information or assistance that you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,

Darrel

Kelly,
You indicated on 7/22 that I would get an email from you shortly. I have not received one yet, can you give me a more specific time-frame so I will know if it didn't come through for some reason?
Thanks,
Mary

Hi Kelly,

I retired on November 30, 2007. Can you tell me what would be the process to come back to Verizon as a contractor or vendor? I think there is a waiting period before you can be rehired? Can you let me know if that is so? I worked in New Jersey and New York as a Team Leader, Training Specialist and Sales Specialist.

Thanks,
Jo-Ann

Jo-Ann,

Good Mornning. Thanks for the inquiry. Due to the needs of the business, we have very limited opportunities to rehire former employees. If you are interested in being considered in the event there are available opportunities, you must apply online at www.verizon.com/careers. In the event there are job openings for which you can be considered, you will be contacted. You will not be contacted unless you are being considered for an available opening.

Please be aware that your prior service with Verizon is not a guarantee of re-employment. Your eligibility for re-employment will be determined by the applicable staffing process.

Thank you for your continued interest in Verizon and we wish you all the best.

Again, thanks for your inquiry.

Kelly,

I was looking around the site trying to find an old colleague who is now an Executive IT Director for Verizon and stumbled across your blog. Great idea and I commend you for it, you've created a nice resource here. I work for Blackstone Technology Group we are an IT satffing/consulting firm. I know that you are probably hounded constantly by companies wanting to become vendors but I was hoping you would consider us. We already do some work with FNS on the gov't side. I'm hoping you will consider getting some information from me on how we could service Verizon's needs, I would appreciate it greatly. Thank you very much!

Phil,

I apologize for not responding to you sooner! I can honestly say with all the comments, I somehow missed your question. Again, I apologize. Regarding employment, it seems as though you have not applied on-line yet, so please follow the instructions below.

Instructions to Apply

The only way to apply is online at verizon.com/telecomjobs. We would be happy to consider your resume after you submit it through our website, www.verizon.com/careers. We post all current job openings there, and that is also where you need to apply on-line. If you don't see a job that fits your skills and interests, keep checking back because we update the site with new openings as soon as they become available. Also, we strongly encourage you to create an Agent that can notify you when new jobs become available. If you have any questions or need help let us know.

Please find below a list of steps to help you apply:

1. Log on to our careers website, www.verizon.com/careers.
2. Click on "Resume Management", and then create a profile by setting up a user name, password and contact information. Please make note of your user id and password in a reliable place because you will need them in order to edit your resume and apply for positions. Remember, whenever you want to log into your Career account in the future, go to RESUME MANAGEMENT. Do not click on the “My Account” or “sign in” buttons at the top of the page.
3. Once your profile has been created, then create your resume by typing in the information or by pasting the information in the fields from your resume document. As you build your resume in the template, hit "save and continue" to move on to each new page.
4. Once your resume has been completed and saved, you will be returned to the Resume Management section.
5. To search for available positions, click on the "Search Current Openings" link on the navigation menu or go to http://www22.verizon.com/about/careers/jobsearch/.
6. Search for current openings by selecting a category from the first drop-down box, and then a location from the second drop-down box. (You may select more than one of each by holding down the CTRL button on your keyboard.)

- OR, you may simply enter a key word in the "By Keyword" box, to see if there are any positions that mention that word in their description.

7. Click on the "Submit" button. If any positions are a match for your criteria, they will appear. Click on the title of the position to read the description. Jobs that have a flame before the title are considered “Hot”, which means that there is an immediate need. If it seems like a match for your qualifications, click the "Apply On-line" button at the bottom of the description and then follow the instructions for submitting your online resume at that point. After you apply for the position you will see a thank you message on-line. If you want to see a list of all the jobs that you have applied to, please click on the “View Applications”.
8. We also encourage you to establish an Agent, which will allow us to notify you when jobs become available in the future that match your skills and interests either via email or to your wireless device. While you are in Resume Management please select “Manage Agents”.

Once again thank you for your interest in Verizon we will be looking forward to receiving your resume.

Additionally, you mention the Talent Network, which is off of the Verizon homepage, verizon.com. I have alerted them to you issue and ask that you go back in and see if you are able to submit your name.

Once you have applied and checked the Verizon Talent Network, let me know and I will put you in contact with a recruiter.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Kelly,
I worked for Verizon for 8 years and took a voluntary package back in June of 2007. I only left because my family was relocating to another State. However we decided not move again because the economy went bad and took the housing and job markets with it. I have since decided to stay in New York. I have applied for positions over the internet with Verizon. I even get a message stating I will be called within 24 hours by an HR person after filling out the application. But I never receive a phone call. I know it is because I am an ex-employee and costs has a lot to do with it. I was a model employee with Verizon. Perfect attendance, met all my objectives etc...It was a bad move on my part to leave, but at the time since I was moving my family to another State it was a good move. If there is any way I can get back with Verizon I would like to do so. Verizon is an excellent company to work for. Is there any advice you can offer me? Thank you for your time and enjoy your weekend.

Hi Kelly,
I'm not sure this thread is still active or not but I'll give it a go. I qualified for the Fiber Customer Support Analyst position in May, 2009 in the Freehold office. I was sent a letter notifying me I would be contacted within 30 days if a position matching my skills was open. I haven't heard anything since. I am still very interested in working for Verizon. Is there anything else I should do?
