Meet Verizon HR- Daily Blog

Welcome everyone to the "Meet VZHR blog". My name is Kelly McCorkle; Manager of Talent Strategy and Operations and this is a blog written by me for you. Additionally, we will also have an actual recruiter blog, which will launch separately, very soon. I have been with Verizon for 10 exciting years and I am thrilled to be blogging with you to tell you all about Verizon and the many opportunities we have. But first, let me tell you a little bit about me.....

I started with Verizon in June of 1998 working as a staffer and since that time, I have held many positions within HR, but I always seem to gravitate back to the talent acquisition function, as that truly is my passion. I enjoy the "people" aspect of recruiting and the way it allows me to use the right side of my brain aka the creative side of my brain. Plus, Verizon is on the forefront of technology and entertainment, which provides me many avenues and resources to attract the talent we need! So, its a perfect match.

Ok, enough about me and more about what it is that you can expect from this blog. I want this to be a tool that can help you get answers to your questions about Verizon and our employment opportunities. I also want this to be a open dialogue tool that can be shared with others that are curious about working at Verizon, or about our wonderful products. So, let the blog begin! Welcome Aboard. Check back daily for updates.........

Hi Kelly,

Idea of a blog from HR manager sounds very intersting and thoughtful. Haven't seen anywhere till now. Just a simple query - "How can recruiting be an activity of interest which is actually an outcome"

My name is Ram Bala and I worked in Verizon from 1996-1998. I worked in the Silver Spring office in MD on advanced technologies. In 2002 I became a realtor and business was good until recent. I am looking to get back into technology. I have an MBA and M.S. in addition to 2 other Masters degree - one of which is in Computer Science.

I would appreciate if you could help me find a quick position in Verizon - preferably in Ashburn, VA. I was recently contacted by a recruiter for a contract position in similar capacity - so, I know there is an opening available.

My email address is ram.bala.us@gmail.com and my cell number is (703)403-5338.

Thanks, in advance.

Amit,

Good Morning! Thanks for the note. I am not sure what you mean "how can recruiting be an activity of interest which is actually an outcome". As you know, the intent of recruitment is to bring the right talent into a company in the right amount of time. At Verizon, we pride ourselves in our ability to do so, and by using many diverse sources, we can accomplish this. Does that answer your question?

Ram,

Thanks for your question. Can you tell me what position you held, and were you a contractor or Verizon employee? Thanks in advance for further clarification.

My name is Jacki Mitchell and I worked at Verizon in the Chesapeake, VA office from 2000-2003. I worked as an Assignment Administrator and took on added duties of Administrative Assistant.
In late 2003 my husband wanted to expand his business so we moved to Raleigh, NC. At that time Verizon was still working things out between the unions and I had to quit and try to get rehired. There has not been a lot of positions I qualified for in this area, but now they have two positions that are with telecom and are titled Administrator. One position is an Administrative support and the other is Customer Service. I really enjoyed working at Verizon and would like the opportunity to come back on board.

I would appreciate if you could help me. The positions are in the Raleigh/Durham area.

My email address is jacimytch@gmail.com and my cell is (757)515-2699.

Thanks in advance for all of your help.

Posted a message on August 6, 2008 and have not received a response yet. How often is this board checked. Would like to know if there is a VZ HR recruiter that can help?

I would appreciate a response.

Thanks,

Jacki

Jacki,

Good afternoon, I apologize for the delay, I check this board daily but because this was an older post, I missed it. Again, I apologize. I believe you are interested in verizon wirless positions as you asked about Raleigh/Durham, which is mainly a Wireless location. Can you tell me which site you visited to find the positions. That will help me point you in the right direction.

Thanks in advance, and again, I apologize for the delay.

Hi Kelly,

Apology accepted. I do understand that you are busy and do not monitor this site all day. I was just curious as to when I may get a response.

I went to Verizon.com under the Telecom heading. I do know that there is a Verizon office here in the Raleigh/Durham area which is not apart of the wireless. I think it has a Durham address. This is the location I went to when I was going through the quit/rehire process. Both positions listed are titled Administrator-Customer Service, but one is with administrative and support services and the other is with Customer Service, Call Center and Operators.

I have experience in both of these areas. I would like to work with the administrative and support services team, but will accept either position if offered. I appreciate any assistance you can give me, and thanks in advance for taking the time to help.

Kelly and Laura,

Thank you both for your help and making this a good experience for me. Hopefully, I will hear from the local HR department soon and send you an update of my return to Verizon. It is good to know and experience a company that cares enough about the job seeker to have a site like this.

Again, thanks for all of your help.

Kelly,

I worked at VZ from 1999 to 2007 as an Admin. Asst. in NYC. I worked in the District Office dealing with employee relations work for about 5yrs, as well as worked in distpatch (working with POTS and FIOS) for my remaining time with VZ. I left the company because I wanted to broaden my HR skills and experience.

I wanted to know if you see any HR Specialist and/or Coordinator openings in the near future in the NYC area. And if not, then when.

Thanks in advance.
